El Pepino es el fruto de una planta herbácea anual (cucumis sativus), de la familia de las cucurbitáceas.

 

 

 

La planta posee grandes hojas verdes formando un dosel sobre los frutos, que nacen de brotes laterales en las axilas de éstas. Emite zarcillos, por lo que se la puede guiar por una espaldera o dejarla crecer sobre el suelo de forma rastrera. Los tallos, gruesos y espinosos están divididos en nudos de los que nace un zarcillo y una hoja.
Su fruto, el pepino, es una hortaliza de piel verde más o menos oscura o incluso amarillenta, según la variedad, con forma cilíndrica y alargada de unos 30 cm. El interior es una pulpa blanca y acuosa con pequeñas semillas aplanadas repartidas a lo largo del cuerpo del fruto. Habitualmente se recolecta aún verde y se consume crudo, cocinado o elaborado como encurtido. La mejor variedad para encurtir es la llamada «Cornichon».
Se conoce desde hace más de 3.000 años. Aunque se piensa que es oriundo de la India, su cultivo se ha extendido tanto que es difícil determinar su procedencia. Ya formaba parte de la gastronomía griega y romana. Según cita Plinio, nunca faltaba entre los platos servidos al emperador Tiberio. Hoy en día, es un ingrediente típico en las ensaladas mediterráneas y su variante encurtida un popular aperitivo.

El pepino, por su riqueza en agua, vitamina E y aceites naturales,
constituye uno de los mejores
remedios para el cuidado externo de la piel.
Aplicado
externamente sobre esta, aporta todo sus aceites y agua para
suavizar y rehidratar este órgano devolviéndole
toda la frescura y textura que va perdiendo como consecuencia
de las agresiones ambientales o de la propia degradación
natural del organismo por la acción de los radicales
libres. Así pues resulta muy adecuado para pieles que
han sufrido las consecuencias de una exposición prolongada
al sol.

 
Mascarillas de Pepino
La mascarilla de pepino es excelente para dar suavidad a la piel, quitar manchas y arrugas.

La manera más sencilla de realizarla es triturar los pepinos hasta que queden hechos una pasta y esparcirlos sobre la cara. Dejar unos 15 minutos y retirar con agua tibia.
Se cuenta el caso de célebres bellezas, como la francesa Ninon de Lencios, que usaba el jugo de pepinos para rejuvenecer su piel, y nos enseña a preparar un aceite de pepino para esos mismos fines, de la siguiente manera:
Se pelan y se cortan ¼ kilo de pepinos y se hace calentar (sin hervir) en 1 ½ litros de aceite de oliva y luego, después de enfriado, se pasa por un colador y está listo para ser usado.

 
Mascarilla de pepinos y miel
Ingredientes
1- 1/ 4 de taza de miel de abeja

2- Opcional: unas gotas de jugo de limón o una gota de aceite de almendras

3- 1 pepino
Aplicación:
Pelar el pepino y cortarlo en rebanadas muy finas o triturarlo en la licuadora o procesador de alimentos.

Si usas limón mézclalo con la miel

Aplícate la miel y dale un masaje a tu rostro. Se puede diluir con un poco de agua para suavizar su textura. Con movimientos circulares siempre hacia arriba siguiendo la dirección del músculo.

Deja la miel por mas o menos 10 minutos en tu piel, mientras tanto descansa y cierra los ojos, trata de pensar en cosas agradables.

Elimina la miel con agua tibia Pon el pepino sobre tu rostro y cuello. Puedes cubrir aun tus ojos si deseas con pepino.

Deja el pepino por 5 o 10 minutos y elimina con agua tibia.

Sentirás la piel firme y limpia.

 
Pepino y manzanilla
Ambos ingredientes principales son calmantes por lo que ayudan en caso de irritación
Ingredientes
1- 1 pepino mediano

2- una bolsita de té de manzanilla o una cucharada de flores de manzanilla (chamomile tea)

3- una cucharada de gelatina sin sabor (es colágeno puro)
Procedimiento
Prepara ¼ taza de te de manzanilla, una vez listo disuelve la gelatina. Espera a que enfrie.

Licua el pepino y cuélalo.

Mezcla el pepino con la manzanilla y gelatina

Espera que este totalmente frío.
Aplicación
Límpiate el rostro y aplícate la mascarilla sobre el rostro y cuello.

Déjala por mas o menos 15 minutos Elimínala con agua tibia.

También puedes usar caléndula en lugar de manzanilla.

 
Y para terminar una recetita de cocina sencilla:
Ensalada de Pepino y Atún
Ingredientes:
2 latas de atún en agua

3 cucharadas de mayonesa

1 limón

1 taza de tomatitos cherry

2 cucharadas de almendras o nueces peladas

1 Pepino cortado en cuadritos pequeños

1/2 Lechuga cortada

Sal
Preparación:
Se escurre el agua a los atunes, se les agrega la mayonesa, el jugo del limon, el pepino, la lechuga, los tomatitos, las almendras y la sal. Se puede agregar un toque de pimienta. Revolver y listo.
